Dear World

updated August 7, 2018

Dear World was a song cycle based around the general theme of life up to high school and the memories, friends, and experiences you make within that period of your life. It was performed at the Cope Gillette Theatre in Everrett, Washington at the Dear World Cabaret. Below are a few of the songs with some descriptions of how they came into existence and a link to the entirety of the second act.

Dear World
Music and Lyrics by Mitchell Beard
Performed by the cast of Dear World

Description: Dear World was the title song of the cabaret and became the anthem of the show. As many of the students in the show move on to the next part of their lives it was important for me to have a song that would have a message that would ring true with many of the students and so I wrote Dear World as a letter to the world saying "we're coming for you" and that together we can change the world for the better.

Shelby's in the Freezer (with the Fishstix)
Music by Mitchell Beard
Lyrics by Emily Vaughan, Mitchell Beard, and Amanda Hankel
Performed by Emily Vaughan

Description: Shelby's in the freezer was actually based on a very true story that happened to my family while watching our neighbors' dog. I was telling the story to Emily and Amanda one night while at my house and somehow we turned it into a song. There really wasn't much that we changed other than the family's name and religious affiliation.

Leave a Legacy
Music and Lyrics by Mitchell Beard
Performed by Aly Gutierrez

Description: Leave a legacy was originally written for a musical that was never finished. Instead of leaving much of the music untouched, I repurposed a couple of the songs for Dear World (Leave a Legacy and Under the stars).

Old South Road

Performed by Kayla Hall
